UZBEKISTAN: Ship graveyard will become one of the new ecotourism itineraries in Uzbekistan.

Under the programme, it is planned to develop new ecotourism itineraries which include a visit to a popular tourist attraction: the former port on the Aral Sea – Muynak, which is also called "ship graveyard" on the Aral Sea shore. To attract ecotourism admirers, it is planned to construct ecotourism infrastructure in Akcha Kul zone of Ellikala district, as well as tourism complex and ethnographic park at Ustyurt zone of Kungrad district. The programme also includes measures on creation of new tourist itinerary for pilgrims from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan (Karakalpakstan hosts historical and archeological complexes Mizdakhan and Sultan Vays Baba – the sacred places attractive to pilgrims), as well as development of infrastructure of tourist sites. Ancient fortresses Kyrg-Kyz, Ayaz-Kala, Janbas-Kala, Ichan Kala mausoleum, unique Toprak-Kala ancient settlement and other historical and archeological monuments, located in Karakalpakstan, are of huge scientific and cultural interest for local and foreign tourists. In the near future new hotels in Nukus and Turtkul district are to be built, whereas Nukus Hotel in Karakalpak capital is to be reconstructed.
