KAZAKHSTAN: A new attraction of Astana - the Triumphal Arch.
The Arch was constructed in the centre of Orynbor street and can be seen from every part of the city. The Arch is 21.5 metres high and 13 metres wide. Its front wall bears the inscription "Mangilik Yel" ("Eternal Earth") and on the top there is an observation deck.
The corners of the Arch are flanked with semi-columns and decorated with Kazakh ornament. Three-dimensional 4.4-metre-high bronze sculptures of an aksakal-wiseman, mother, medieval warrior and a modern warrior are installed in the niches of the Arch's façade. The side niches contain symbolic sculptures of Tai-Kazan from Hojja Akhmet Yassavi mausoleum.
The exterior facing of the Arch is made of granite and marble of beige colour.
The motor road skirts the Arch on both sides and for visitors' convenience there was built an underground passage that leads to the square in front of the Arch and to park zone surrounding the monument.
