The new airport meets all the international standards. The runway is 3600 metres long and 60 metres wide. The taxiway area is about 26,000 square metres. The airport is able to handle aircrafts weighing up to 400 tons. The airport apron area is 100,000 square metres. The capacity of Gabala international airport is 200 passengers per hour. Gabala is one of the most ancient cities of Azerbaijan. It is mentioned in the works of antique historians of the 1st century, and within 600 years it used to be the capital of ancient Caucasian Albania. It was also part of Shirvanshakh state and Sheki khanate. In the vicinity of Gabala there are numerous historical and architectural monuments, including the ruins of a 2000-year old urban settlement.
