Silk Road Destinations is a regional project aimed at consolidation of the efforts of tourist companies of Silk Road countries on promotion of tourist product in the markets of developed countries.

 
Silk Road Destinations is a project of joint participation of tourist companies of Silk Road countries in the international travel fairs.

Silk Road Destinations Project includes the following:
- joint promotion of tourist product in the markets of developed countries;
- joint participation in the international travel fairs;
- publication of joint printed advertising and promotional material;
- joint promotion of Silk Road travels.
 
Project members:
The list of project members embraces the best tourist companies of the Silk Road countries: Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, China (Xinjiang).
 
These tour operating companies are highly qualified professionals having a long valuable experience and high rating in their sphere of activity.

The membership in the project is not limited.
 
Goals:
The main goal of Silk Road Destinations project is organization and promotion in the international markets of various joint multinational tours along the Silk Road at the highest level possible in terms of quality and at affordable prices.
 
The project implies application of modern technologies, joint marketing and advertising activity to attract more tourists to the countries whose territories for centuries hosted various trails of the ancient transcontinental trade highway - the Great Silk Road that left to the mankind a unique legacy of material and spiritual culture.
 
Many foreign tourists who availed themselves of the services offered by tourist companies – members of Silk Road Destinations project commented on combined tours through Silk Road countries as the most informative, impressive and convenient.

Tasks:
Under Silk Road Destinations project tour operators challenge themselves with the following tasks:
 
- to intensify the promotion of the Silk Road countries tourist product in the markets of developed countries;
- to extend the scope of rendered services by enhancing the effectiveness of marketing activity and reduction of marketing expenditures;
- to create joint advertising product and to intensify its effectiveness;
- to steadily reduce expenditures associated with the participation in international travel fairs alongside with more active involvement in international travel fairs;
- mutual presentation and promotion of each other to existing and potential partners.
 
Joint tourist product:
Joint tourist product of the members of Silk Road Destinations project includes various forms of cultural and active regional tours. The most popular among them are the following:
a) Tourist triangle tours offer visits to three neighboring countries within one travel;
b) Circular tours offer travellers a tour round several neighbouring countries with the tour start and finish in the same country;
c) Transnational tours offer travels which start in one country and finish in the third, fourth or fifth country after crossing the territory of these countries. Thus the grand transnational tour along the Great Silk Road starts in Armenia, continues in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and finishes in China.
d) Radial tours imply staying in one country as a base with one-, two- or three-day trips to neighbouring countries.
 
Mission:
Today not only tourist companies compete in the international tourism market, but countries and even entire regions as well.  
 
The main competitors to the Great Silk Road as a tourist product are the travels in Africa, Latin America, countries of the Asian-Pacific region, and some others.
 
Under tough competition, countries and their tourist companies have to seek for new ways of product promotion. From experience we know that one of the most effective ways to achieve this goal is to consolidate the efforts of several companies or several countries. Such integration makes for reduction of expenditures associated with marketing and advertising activity, at the same time considerably enhances its effectiveness.
 
These are the considerations the best tourist companies of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and China were guided by when they team up and participate in the Silk Road Destinations project. Thus, there have been organized Silk Road Destinations stands at many international travel fairs.
 
Printed promotional material:
To promote a joint tourist product, Silk Road Destinations project members arrange publication of printed material in various languages – English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese.
 
For each travel fair, where Silk Road Destinations stands are organized, the project members arrange folders and information promotional flyers under the Silk Road Destinations trademark.
 
With collaboration of interested tourist companies from the Silk Road countries, at the moment the project members are preparing for publication the following printed materials:
- ‘The treasures of World Heritage on the Silk Road’ brochure;
- Tourist map of the Great Silk Road;
- ‘Cultural and Adventure Tours on the Silk Road’ catalogue;
- Silk Road Destinations Image Brochure.
 
Joint advertising:
Experts of tourism industry, our partners who generate the tourist flows to Silk Road region, speak favourably of Silk Road Destinations News internet newspaper issued by Silk Road Destinations project once in two months. The newspaper is intended for product-managers of tourist companies – the buyers of Silk Road tourist product, and provides information on the news in tourism industry of the region: the construction of new hotels and roads, introduction of new flights, visa regime news, customs regulations, etc.
 
Joint projects:
By common efforts of the tourist companies Silk Road Destinations project elaborates and puts into practice large-scale tourist projects:
- international tourist expeditions: ‘In the footsteps of Marco Polo’, ‘Tracing Alexander the Great’s military campaign to Asia’, ‘In the footsteps of Genghis-khan along the Great Silk Road’;
- international auto motor rally across the Silk Road countries;
- multinational tours ‘The treasures of World Heritage on the Silk Road’ and ‘Cultural and Adventure Tours on the Silk Road’.
